金丝猴，中国的国宝，国家一级保护动物。在动物分类学上属灵长目、猴科、仰鼻猴属。金丝猴分为三种：川金丝猴、滇金丝猴和黔金丝猴。
滇金丝猴产于云南西部，体背、体侧、四肢外侧、足和尾呈黑色，因此又叫“黑金丝猴”或“黑仰鼻猴”。其幼猴全身为白色，随年龄增长才能逐渐变成父母的体色。
黔金丝猴分布于贵州梵净山区，其数量十分稀少，目前国内外动物园均未饲养展出过，所以绝大多数人不能见到。其身上没有“金色”，体毛主要是灰褐色，身上有许多白斑，当地人又称之为“花猴”；因尾巴又黑又细，象牛尾巴，所以又称“牛尾猴”。是金丝猴中最珍贵的一种。
金丝猴主要吃嫩枝、幼芽、鲜叶、竹叶和各种水果，一般栖息于海拔1500-3000米或更高的暗针叶林带，营树而居，主要活动在高大乔木树冠的顶层，它爬树灵活敏捷，跳跃能力特别强，常几十只结群活动，雌雄老幼一起，由雄中的长者带队，在树上觅食，以植物的叶、芽、树皮和果实等素食为主。母猴怀胎五、六月后，多数仅产一仔。据目前调查所知，黔金丝猴尚存数百只，已濒临绝灭。滇金丝猴是我国特有的世界珍惜动物之一，它仅存于白茫雪山自然保护区和萨马阁自然保护区。专家认为，这里的金丝猴最少有两个特点可称为世界之最：在全世界近200种灵长类动物中，分布地在海拔超过2000米的种类寥寥无几，而滇金丝猴分布的海拔高度都在4000米左右，这种分布的绝对高度是很罕见的。另外，滇金丝猴还有一副“面白唇红”的娇好容貌为其得来一份“最美的灵长类动物”的美誉。嘴唇宽厚，红艳，一双杏眼，上翘的鼻子，非常好看。幼仔灰白色，憨态可掬。金丝猴栖息于海拔2000-3000米的针阔叶混交林带，有垂直迁移的习性，夏季在海拔高处的山林中活动，冬季下到较低地区。喜群居，有10几只一群，也有上百只一群的，成群游荡，有一定的活动范围和相对固定的路线。食物以野果、树叶、嫩枝芽为主，也吃苔藓植物。4岁性成熟，每年夏季产1仔。幼仔毛色 乳黄，两岁以后毛色金黄。
在金丝猴集中分布的主要栖息地，已分别建立了一批自然保护区，人类又保存了一个珍稀物种。
